  • Instead of joining the masses down on the valley floor vying for a spot to view Horsetail Falls off El Capitan, my buddy and I decided for a different approach. We cross country skied 9 miles (with a 50 pound backpack) and then another mile in deep snow out to Taft Point for a front row seat the incredible sunset. It was definitely worth the excruciating journey to get out there. But afterward I couldn't move another muscle and we made the decision to camp out there in sub freezing temperatures. The next day we made the trek back to Badger Pass and enjoyed a celebratory meal.

  • Cascade Creek is one of those places you can easily miss. It's easy to get distracted by the monoliths and waterfalls as you drive down to the valley below. But cascade creek is worth the stop with the rushing waters making a path around cedar trees and granite boulders until it disappears down the cliff.

  • The last sunlight of the day put on a great show illuminating domes and the mountains surrounding Tuolumne Meadows in high country of Yosemite. It was one those magical moments when the light hit just right. Despite the fact the mosquitoes were biting and my feet and tripod were stuck in mud I didn't care.
    Just the beginning
  • Spring in a great season to explore Yosemite. It is the best time to view the seasonal Ribbon Fall and El Capitan from the overflowing Merced River.
    Spring has arrived
  • After the grueling hike up the Yosemite Falls trail and over to North Dome we arrived just as the sun was letting go it's brilliant light on the famous face of Half Dome. There was less than 5 minutes of alpenglow on half dome, then twilight and all went dark. We still had another 8 miles to go. Yosemite is such an amazing place. Thanks for looking.

  • The black oaks of Yosemite are one of the iconic trees in the park. Normally you don't associate oaks with mountains but in Yosemite it's different. I love photographing these trees any time of the year. The black oaks have dark bark that makes for good contrasts.

  • Backpacked three days into the Yosemite backcountry. Our destination was Young Lakes and then the next day to hike Mt Conness. We woke up to this cloudy sky I scrambled to the capture the sunlight on Ragged Peak and the placid reflection of Young Lake

    Nighttime magic
  • Oh, these vast, calm, measureless mountain days, inciting at once to work and rest ! Days in whose light everything seems equally divine, opening a thousand windows to show us God. Nevermore, however weary, should one faint by the way who gains the blessings of one mountain day ; whatever his fate, long life, short life, stormy or calm, he is rich forever. <br />

  • Spring in Yosemite is invigorating: the trees have new growth, the grasses are abounding and Yosemite falls is roaring, especially in late spring when the water flow is at its peak.

  • If you ever have the chance I would recommend hiking down the four mile trail from Glacier Point down to the yosemite valley floor.

  • It was a long day. My buddy and I ended up hiking twenty miles from Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite down into Glen Aulin and all the way to Waterwheel Falls. At the end of the day I noticed some clouds over in east and wondered if it might turn out into a good sunset. With sore muscles and we rushed out into the green Tuolumne Meadows and to my surprise the sky lite up on fire. It was an such a great light show. This was the finale.
